OVERVIEW

The aim of this qualification is to prepare students to become early years educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as early years educators.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You must have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills English and maths. Before you commence on the course you will be expected to complete an English and maths assessment.

If you are not employed in an early years setting you will need access to a relevant work placement. You must bring confirmation of the work placement when you enrol.

Experience within childcare or a Level 2 Childcare qualification is desirable but not essential however this would be of benefit to learners who wish to undertake this course

You will undertake and require a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check).

You will be observed in the workplace by a college assessor who will mark your performance against the assessment criteria of the qualification/unit in which you are working towards.

A variety of assessment methods will be used which will include assignment work, questions, professional discussion, longitudinal study and reflective accounts.

Assessment is continuous throughout the course.

Upon completion of this course you can progress onto the Fd Early Years course or the Fd Working with Children & Young People course.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances. Many people qualify for free tuition fees, for more information please contact Course Information on 01642 333333.

Level 3 Entitlement: If you are aged 19 - 23 on the start date of the course and this is your first full Level 3 qualification the course is free.
