OVERVIEW

The Level 2 Certificate is applicable to learning support staff whose responsibilities at work are supervised.

This course is for those who are employed or work as a volunteer for a minimum of two days a week in a school for three terms. It is suitable for those who wish to gain a recognised qualification and/or progress in the workplace.

You will choose an additional unit which is specific to your role in the setting.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is for those who are employed or work as a volunteer for a minimum of 2 days a week in a school for three terms.

There are no formal entry requirements but the college must carry out an initial assessment of each candidate prior to the start of their programme to ensure that they are entered for an appropriate type and level of qualification.

You will need to find a relevant school placement and will be required to undergo an Enhanced Discolsure and Barring Service (DBS check).

You will be observed in the workplace by a College assessor who will mark your performance against the assessment criteria of the qualification/unit in which you are working towards.

Tutors/assessors will use a variety of assessment methods which will include assignment work, questions and reflective accounts.

You can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances. Many people qualify for free tuition fees, for more information please contact Course Information on 01642 333333.

Level 2 Entitlement: If you are aged 19 - 23 on the start date of the course and this is your first full Level 2 qualification, the course is free if you are studying for an entry or Level 1 qualification (except Basic Skills) where a step from Basic Skills is needed in order to progress to a first full Level 2 course or this is a first full Level 2 qualification.
