OVERVIEW

The course provides you with the skills and abilities you need in order to take an active and responsible role in your community, your everyday life, workplace and educational setting.

You will be encouraged to investigate and analyse language and to experiment and use language creatively.

The course develops your skills in the four language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

  • Understanding and Producing Non-Fiction Texts
  • Speaking and Listening

You will develop effective speaking and attentive listening skills through presenting information, discussion and role play activities.

Tuesday, 1.30pm - 4.30pm.

Wednesday, 9.30am - 12.30pm.

Friday, 10.00am - 1.00pm.

Tuesday or Thursday, 6-9pm.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You must have achieved a grade 3 (D) in GCSE English (language or literature) OR a Level 2 literacy qualification such as Functional Skills OR will have satisfactorily passed a short reading and writing task issued by the College.

You will be assessed through reading, writing analytical skills tests, speaking and listening taks and controlled assessments.

GCSE English is required by many employers and is a requirement to progress to most university courses.

The course is free to all students unless they have already achieved a grade 4 (C) or above for GCSE English language.
