Middlesbrough College’s STEM Training Centre is a leader provider of technical training, skills, behaviours and competency solutions for a range of engineering industries.

The Centre provides training in the practical and academic skills that companies need to compete in the global market. Our specialist team of industry trained experts have extensive knowledge and experience in delivering learning, training and competency gained from their individual backgrounds working for leading industry operators and service companies.

Our training course portfolio has been designed in consultation with employers and includes many of the key qualifications required within the engineering industry. Through our established STEM advisory board, our course offering has been aligned to deliver the skills and competences needed by local industry.

We believe that to achieve competency in the workplace, training needs to be combined with experience. That’s why our unique training centre simulates a real working environment, using the latest high specification equipment to replicate an industrial setting.

Environment And Waste

Waste management activities are increasingly being recognised as a priority for today’s society as there is increasing emphasis on minimising waste, extracting greater value from waste through recycling and producing energy from waste. There is also greater pressure for all businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, through energy efficient practice and renewable energies. Process and Instrumentation

Process and Instrumentation is needed in modern industrial processes for a business to remain profitable. It improves product quality, reduces plant emissions, minimizes human error, and reduces operating costs among many other benefits. We offer technical qualifications that meet the required standard to become a technician in this industry. Our courses cover the key aspects of current process control technology, which enable maintenance personnel to perform calibration, commissioning and maintenance of the typical devices used in industrial systems.

All our training has been designed to meet the challenging needs of the process industry. The STEM Centre has a world class live industrial plant for distillation and 3 phase separation. It incorporates platforms at various heights, provides columns and vessels that are integrated by kennedy grating, cat ladders and stairs.

Plant, Logistics and Warehousing

Logistics encompasses the management of the flow of goods, information and other resources, between the point of origin and the point of consumption. In today’s global economy, warehousing and logistics operate in dynamic global supply chains. A highly competitive global marketplace requires rational approaches to designing dynamic warehousing and logistics operations. Speed, efficiency and quality all need to be improved simultaneously, not only at the operational level, but also during design and implementation.

PLCs, Robotics and AutoCAD 

Robotics is the branch of engineering that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing. It forms an integral part of factory automation and industrial process controls and is vital for modern engineering practice. AutoCAD is regarded as the industry leader in 3D computer-aided design, and is used to help organisations design, visualize, document and communicate ideas clearly and efficiently. Our intermediate and advanced training courses include PLC controlling, robotics and AutoCAD. 

The STEM Centre has a state of the art CAD/CAM suite with all the latest software and hardware. The suite supports low-volume and prototype production of parts from 3D model to finished parts using the latest simulation techniques.

Machinists create precision engineered parts and components, using machine tools to shape blank components. The machine tools used include grinding, milling and cutting machines, lathes, drills and presses.
